Vintage Solid Mahogany Valve Body Painted silver 5 1/2 pounds
12 1/4" tall, 9 7/8" at the widest, about 3 1/2" thick
This was a pattern that was used for making a hydraulic valve body.
Solid Mahogany pattern.   Weighs 5 1/2 pounds
This was foundry used and the flashing  edges must have gotten banged up bad and had to be redone, so a piece of acrylic thin stock was adhered to the back
Today, there are almost no molds made anymore from wood.  They are either made from plastic stock or metal.
This mold  is from an age of days gone by, where most patterns were made from wood.
Pattern making is a  highly skilled trade that required a lot of handwork years ago, now most everything is made with CAD CAM machines.   Pattern making required often working within 5/1000ths of an inch, and was one of the highest paid trades.
My father is winding down his 50 year pattern industry business, and this came from his pattern archives.
This was the original wood mold, my fathers' business was subcontracted by a  foundry
I packed this at the shop, it came out of  storage, I wiped it off but it is  still a little  dirty,  I am mentioning this so that you do not open them up somewhere that you would not want dirty items on.
