    Description

Vintage Industrial Wood Pattern Cores for 10 hp outboard boat motor prop MERCURY
    Pattern is 4 ¼” by 7 ¼”.
This is a really awesome 3 dimensional pattern,  a complicated piece to make by hand, which is how it was made.
This pattern was adressed to an owner of Gopher Pattern, 2 owners before my father bought the company, pattern is at least 35-40 years old.
I think the fins are poured epoxy or an epoxy overlay of some other material. There are wood segments within epoxy, it is rather unusual, and my father remembers nothing about it
Nevertheless, it does have the company name that had ordered the work, Morris Midwest (label dried out and literally falling apart)out of Wausau Wisconsin, and one of the cores is marked 10 hp, so the prop must have been for a 10 hp engine.
Morris Midwest did work for Mercury but I can't say that this was for a Mercury engine.
There are two cores, dad can’t remember if they both go with the piece, but it was all on the same shelf, and the one core is marked Morris Midwest.
The cast aluminum prop has machining on it, I don't know if it was a protoype, or what.
It is  approx 6 3/8" from outside fin to outside fin.
Shaft diameter hole is a little under 9/16". Backside machined opening approx 1 15/16"
An interesting lot, having the original cast aluminum example most likely furnished by Morris at the time.
Cherry was used in applications for durability and strength, it was a much more difficult wood to work with than  mahogany.
The prop is cherry and assembled and strengthened with epoxy.
The cores are Mahogany , Varnished.   My fathers' shop either left  their patterns natural wood, or  painted all red.
Today, there are almost no molds made anymore from wood.  They are either made from plastic stock or metal.
These molds are from an  age of days gone by, where most patterns were made from wood.
Pattern making is a  highly skilled trade that required a lot of handwork years aggo, now most everything is made with CAD CAM.  Pattern making required often working within 5/1000ths of an inch, and was one of the highest paid trades.
See my other wood pattern molds I am offering!
My father is winding down his 50 year pattern industry business, and this came from his pattern archives.
These were the original wood molds, my fathers' business was subcontracted by a  foundry to make .
    Overall  very nice condition.
These will make a great wall decorations if you love industrial related items!
Decorate your shop or man cave.
