Vintage Geometric Pattern Wood Core Box Industrial Pattern Foundry Mold
Solid mahogany base(including the bottom cleats) weighs a little over  4 pounds
Heavy wood pattern is   8 3/4 " by 10 3/4"
Approx 3 1/2" diameter Geometric circular pattern in the center of the mold, made of individual pieces all perfectly spaced with thousandths of an inch tolerance , laid out on  scored lines. Just like all patterns molds, these have all slightly tapered surfaces, so although  this does not look like much, this took some doing to produce.
Today, there are almost no molds made anymore from wood.  They are either made from plastic stock or metal.
This mold  is from an age of days gone by, where most patterns were made from wood.
Pattern making is a  highly skilled trade that required a lot of handwork years ago, now most everything is made with CAD CAM machines.   Pattern making required often working within 5/1000ths of an inch, and was one of the highest paid trades.
My father is winding down his 50 year pattern industry business, and this came from his pattern archives.
This was the original wood mold that  my fathers' business was subcontracted by a  foundry to make this original mold.
Mold is painted red.   My fathers' shop either painted all red, or left natural wood
