Solid Cherry Old Wood Pattern w/ Machined metal insets Foundry Casting Mold
Really neat solid cherry wood pattern, Overall  13 3/4" by 8", 3 1/4" deep.
Pattern dimensions alone are 9 1/4" by 3 3/4"by 2" tall.
Pattern mounted on cherry board with cleat feet.
Pattern has a really great look with the metal inlays.
This was an unusual pattern, not typical work that my Dad's shop did.
Shows foundry use, wear, but not much, Great Look!
This pattern has reinforced machined aluminum edges on sides of the pattern and other machined aluminum insets on top and sides.
Cherry was used for  strength and maintaining definition. Very hard wood.
Today, there are almost no molds made anymore from wood.  They are either made from plastic stock or metal.
This mold  is from an age of days gone by, where most patterns were made from wood.
Pattern making is a  highly skilled trade that required a lot of handwork years ago, now most everything is made with CAD CAM machines.   Pattern making required often working within 5/1000ths of an inch, and was one of the highest paid trades.
My father is winding down his 50 year pattern industry business, and this came from his pattern archives.
Specifically, I do not know what  this was for, it is old enough that records are no longer available to identify  it. It was for some large piece of machinery.
This was the original wood mold, my fathers' business was subcontracted by a  foundry to make this original mold.
I packed this at the shop, it came out of  storage, we vacuumed them, removing lots of old sawdust and some grime, but they are still somewhat dirty,  I am mentioning this so that you do not open them up somewhere that you would not want dirty items on.
