Description
Read the fine print below the item description, as it is part of the buyer and seller agreement. This auction is for both cuffs together
! I have studied these phenomenal cuff bracelets for years, looking for clues as to their origin and age. The closest I can come is the fine repousse work from 18th and 19th century Indian and Chinese silversmiths. Because the cuffs are nearly identical and have been together for well over a century, I will not break them up. They are sold as a pair.
They feature highly ornate and fabulously oxidized repousse flowers, gourds, seeds, possibly pinecones, and the finest detailed work. When I say they are “massive” I mean it: they measure over 2 and 3/4” wide, with a wrist circumference that begins at the narrowest tapered end of 7 and 1/16” inch and at the upper widest end of 8 and 1/4”. I can wear these on my bigger arm with no difficulty. There is a highly decorated locking clasp on each and well constructed hinges. These test as silver content, but they are not quite 925/sterling. I do not think there is any bronze, as they do not turn my wrist or arm black from tarnishing. Their combined weight is 163.7 grams (5.77 ounces)!
Condition:
Truly remarkable given their age. One clasp is what I would call “sticky,” meaning it doesn’t unlock quite as smoothly as the other one does, but both are entirely secure. There is a very small difference in the alignment along the two halves where they connect with one another, but I only mention this as they are not “perfect.” There is no squashing or dents to the pillowy repousse that I can find, which means these were no doubt, only worn on special occasions, possibly a wedding.
The Fine Print
Welcome to my shop! I’ve been a dealer and collector of fine vintage sterling silver jewelry for over 40 years. Most of the pieces listed this year have been off-market for over 5 years. I am just now finding time to do detailed listings after a long hiatus from selling on eBay.
Please review all photos and descriptions of condition. Photos are part of the description. All measurements are approximate and done to the best of my ability. Ring size is measured on a standard mandrel. Weights are provided in grams and measured on a postal scale that is calibrated.
I do not accept returns, but will do my best with you to ensure you receive communication from me. Ebay is filled with buyers who only want to flip items. I sell for design, quality and beauty, not for scrap metal value.
These items are all vintage, antique (older than 50 years), or from a secondary contemporary marketplace. As such, there will be scuffs, scratches on stones and metal, visible use, sometimes slightly bent ring bands or clasps or rings that need attention. I will do my best to photograph these or point out any issues.
I leave the patina on pieces, especially with oxidation. If you would prefer something to be shinier and polished before it is mailed, please contact me and I will use an industry recommended product to hand polish, although it may leave a slight odor that can easily be removed by you with rinsing in water with gentle detergents.
This is a smoke-free household but we do have cats, so if a stray hair makes its way into your package, I cannot take responsibility for your allergic reaction. But I promise, the cats are not allowed to wear the jewelry when they party at night.
