    Description

This photo was distributed in 1978 by RCA/Grunt Records to promote the band's album,
    Earth
    and the hit singles,
    Count on Me
    and
    Runaway.

    With the release of
    Earth
, Jefferson Starship embarked on its first US/Europe concert tour in more than a year (due to Marty Balin's reluctance to go out on the road). Unfortunately, the year ended badly for Grace Slick, whose drunken, profane political and sexual tirade against a German audience (which had trashed the stage the night before when the band was a no-show) led to Paul Kantner asking for (and getting) her resignation from the band. Also, drummer John Barbata was in a bad car wreck later that year, which necessitated his leaving the band (replaced by Aynsley Dunbar).
So this photo poignantly reflects one of the final happy days for JS during its most commercially successful years.
This is a lucky find for any fan of the mid-Seventies Jefferson Starship - or collector of publicity photos of significant rock lineups.
