Osram Sylvania of Wellsboro is the mass producer of incandescent bulb shells, and Christmas ornaments. The light bulb shells are then sent to the St. Mary's, PA branch for the addition of filaments. In 1926, then owned by Corning Glassworks, the first ever Ribbon Machine, created by William Woods, was installed in the Wellsboro Plant. This produced light bulbs at a rate of one million bulbs in 24 hours. This machine is still in use today, and after a few modifications and fine tuning it now produces a record 2000 bulbs a minute! This changed the way the world used lights forever, and in 1983 The Ribbon Machine aka The Corning Machine was added to the International Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmarks List.
