    This is an antique, Kirdi, beaded belt or apron with seed beaded geometrical designs and cowry shell dangles called a cache-sexe which translates into ‘to hide the sex’. This antique beaded belt like frontal skirt specimen comes from Cameroon, Africa and the beaded area not including the
    end
    ties measures 18 inches long by 6.75 inches wide not including the cowry shell dangles and has very intricate beadwork and great colors. These old beaded
    cache-sexe
    aprons were worn by the women of the Kirdi and Fulani tribes of Cameroon, West Africa. These aprons were the only clothing the women wore to attract attention and also for protection against evil. These were much like the penis shields that were once worn by the Kirdi men.
