    "C"
Iconic & original portrait of Jimmy Durante at the piano ~ with his sidekick of 28 years ~ the lounge singer of Italian descent Sonny King. Photographed by Rolland Hendrickson backstage at the Melodyland Theatre in Anaheim, California.
This image was taken around the time Jimmy Durante recorded
    Jimmy Durante's Way of Life
album (1964), from which came the gravelly interpretations of "As Time Goes By" and "Make Someone Happy". Durante also recorded a cover of the well known song "I'll Be Seeing You", which became a trademark song on his 60's TV show. This song was also featured in the 2004 film
    The Notebook
    .
Sonny King was the sidekick of Jimmy Durante for 28 years until Durante's death in 1980. They appeared together on
    The Ed Sullivan Show
five times in the 1960s. King shared a New York apartment with Dean Martin when the two were struggling entertainers, and is credited with introducing Martin to a young comedian Jerry Lewis.
Although not an official Rat Pack member, he was close friends with many Rat Pack entertainers and appeared in movies such as
    Robin and the Seven Hoods
    and
    Sergeants 3
    .

    Rolland
Hendrickson photographed many of the stars performing in plays and musicals and one-man-shows at the Melodyland & Carousel Theatres in Southern California back in the 1960s. From his negatives he generally produced only a single portrait print of a particular actor or actress. He developed them in his own darkroom using special textured filters.
Although many of these rare photographs are hand-signed ~ this particular portrait does not bear Hendrickson's signature
