Board mounted Mahogany Pattern Foundry Casting Mold
Really neat wood pattern,
Wood mold used to pour mold in the inverse in plaster, to make aluminum casting mold
The board the pattern is mounted on,  is 13 1/2" by 11 1/2" foot square, 3/4" thick mounting board
Weighs 6 pounds
5 5/8" deep, bottom of board to top of tapered shaft on top.
Shows some foundry use, but in pretty nice condition.
Today, there are almost no molds made anymore from wood.  They are either made from plastic stock or metal.
This mold  is from an age of days gone by, where most patterns were made from wood.
Pattern making is a  highly skilled trade that required a lot of handwork years ago, now most everything is made with CAD CAM machines.   Pattern making required often working within 5/1000ths of an inch, and was one of the highest paid trades.
My father is winding down his 50 year pattern industry business, and this came from his pattern archives.
Specifically, I do not know what  this was for, it is old enough that records are no longer available to identify  it.  It was for some large piece of machinery.
Made from solid solid mahogany,  pine plywood board.
I packed this at the shop, it came out of  storage, it is dusty and has white foundry rmold release agent residue, it wipes off with water.   I am mentioning this so that you do not open them up somewhere that you would not want dirty items on.
