Imperial Glass Bowl
You are buying one bowl. Shipping is FREE to the United States!
This bowl was made by Imperial Glass Company and is unmarked. A piece of true depression glass with production beginning in either 1927 or 1929 and discontinued in 1935.
The glass is pressed, the main color is blue and the rim is milk glass with an opalescent cast. The series was done in three different patterns, this pattern is called 'Sugar Cane' (#7455) and depicts little dots or buttons on it's exterior. All patterns of this line have a lace edge, some being more open, this piece is one with the wider lace rim.
This bowl is the
6 inch
(diameter of lace rim)
belled
(flared rim)
Nappy
(all purpose)
bowl
. The bowl is about 2 & 1/4 inches tall. The interior is smooth with the design on the exterior and a flower on it's bottom.
This is the only piece of sugar cane I have, so nothing to compare it to, but I have to comment the opalescent cast is very nice on it's rim. I have some Katy blue pieces (the diamond pattern) and the opalescent isn't as strong as this one is. I'm not sure if the iridescence varied from piece to piece just from production, or if some patterns had more. This one has a very nice prism effect especially in sunlight. I was able to pick up a bit of it in the photos but it's more impressive in person.
The bowl is in wonderful condition. No chips or cracks and the glass is very clear. A tiny seed bubble here and there but otherwise very clean. Would make a great addition to any glass collection!
