Antique Industrial wooden form mould Numbered: 6 0 3.
This is a great antique piece to use as a display on your wall or table, or for its intended use as a form mould! It has a very nice patina from its age, making it the perfect piece for display.
This piece has no labels or manufacturers plate anywhere on it except for the 6, 0, and 3 stamped in to the front. I am not sure what this form mould was originally used for, I found it in my grandfathers wood-shop, he may have acquired it locally working as a Pittsburgh carpenter, or traveling for a job across the east coast. Additionally it may have come with the building, which was originally owned by the Pennsylvania railroad and before that the local trolley line. I cannot identify it for sure, and cannot make any certain guarantees about its origins sadly.
This item is made of solid wood, likely from a local Pennsylvania old growth forest. It comes apart into two pieces (technically three- see next paragraph) and is held together by two metal bolts and their nuts that run through it. On one end the bots are capped and sealed by wooden plugs made to be flush with the curve of the items side. The other end is left open to tighten or loosen the bolts as you see fit.
The only defect in the item besides the usual dings of wear for such an old item is a crack that runs through 1/3 of the mould. This is honestly only a “flaw” if you think it detracts from the item visually, one might argue it adds to the patina, and does not structurally compromise the mould due to the two bolts that run through it.
