Product Details:
The China Silver Panda coin has been issued since 1983. Its mintage has continued to grow over the years as the demand for these coins has exploded. During the 1980s and 1990s the coins with the lowest mintages were issued, then the mintage was increased several times, and today 8 million coins are released each year. One of the main reasons for the increase is that the domestic Chinese market for bullion has grown in recent years due to rising income and wealth within China as well as the government’s efforts to encourage investment in precious metals.
One of the best features of these coins is that they sport a different obverse design almost every year that shows one or more Pandas, while the reverse side with the iconic Temple of Heaven in Beijing continues to be used on each coin.
Bullion coins with changing designs are very popular with numismatic collectors and with those bullion buyers who are also interested in coins. Over the years the silver Panda has assumed a prominent place in the world silver bullion market and these coins are collected by an increasing number of people.
For 2015, the Mint chose a design that shows a single Panda eating a bamboo shoot, but it also made a major change to the reverse design for this year that has intrigued buyers and collectors. The weight and purity of the coins was removed for 2015, which left people wondering why since there was no official announcement from the Mint.
2015 was notably the last year that the China Mint produced 1 oz coins. Starting in 2016, the China Mint began producing both gold and silver Pandas in grams instead of troy ounces, a symbolic gesture from China.
