    Description

1930 "10 Bucks" Happy Canyon Currency.  An early souvenir from the Happy Canyon Pageant & Wild West Show.  Held yearly since 1916 at the Pendleton Roundup grounds in the Eastern Oregon town of the same name, this is a multicultural event that encompasses a dramatized history of the settling of the American West and the local area. Quite apart from many similar events today, it has survived the use of the term "Indian", while offensive to some (many of whom I find are not Native American), and has always had the active involvement of the local Native American representatives. It celebrated it's official Centennial in 2016. Associated with the Pendleton Roundup, first held in 1910, it also uses the famous Roundup catch-phrase, "Let "Er Buck", and the image of a bronc rider on mount (in this case the familiar 1925 Copyrighted image). Rather than a piece of scrip or "currency" these are simply souvenirs of the event, as I do not believe they could be "spent" in any fashion. Early pieces are scarce, even in Oregon, due to fairly low quality paper being used to produce them - they were just souvenirs after all.
